The art of language immersion: Teaching as theatrical production
What do theater and language immersion have in common? We look briefly at how worlds of empathy/understanding are created onstage in theatrical contexts and how understanding the division of labor within theater can help language immersion teachers structure, maintain, and improve the language worlds they are creating within their own classrooms.
About the presenter:
Valerie "Magna" Borey is the Assistant Dean for Language Discovery Programs at Concordia Language Villages, where she has worked in a variety of capacities for the last seventeen years. She has taught Norwegian to learners of all ages, and writes curriculum for use in multiple language learning contexts. She has also worn a variety of hats in the theatrical world, from playwright to producer to stage manager, and enjoys finding these special portals of understanding that take us to other peoples and places.
